Well, you could, but when you stop taking them, you may or may not experience withdrawal and the need for more. Which in other words is dependency.
August 5, 2021 at 10:53 am #7494I absolutely understand what you are saying, why would you want to be a slave to something, especially opiates. I also think that If I am happy in all other areas of my life, then what’s the big deal. I enjoy hydrocodone & oxy, for many reasons. But that’s not really the problem, im speaking hypothetically, if I were to take an oxy 80 every morning for the rest of my life, what could happen to me health-wise? If you smoke every day, you could get lung cancer. If you drink soft drinks every day you could get diabetic issues, ect… With all of my habits, it seems that opiates are the better options
August 27, 2021 at 8:47 am #7502If you only took a couple of 40mg OxyContin pills per day for the rest of your life, you would most likely not have negative health effects. The problem for many people is that they need larger and larger doses over time for the same pain-killing effects. Patients susceptible to addiction can escalate into uncontrolled habits (such as those noted above). I think you sound naive and ignorant about this subject and should really try to learn more. I cannot count the number of addicts I’ve worked with who started with ill-informed viewpoints.
September 16, 2021 at 9:37 am #7515I’m in the same boat here – so what if I took5 x 30mg oxycontin /day? I just find it hard to believe that something like oxycontin isn’t as bad for me as soft drinks. Addiction, the word itself, has a stigma associated with it that we have to get rid of. What if Im addicted to beneficial things like workout and eating the daily allotment of fiber? Running has been known to be habit-forming. If I run day after day, and if thats not enough, twice a day, my knees might give out, or I might get shin splints, but not if I exercise properly and eat correctly. I’m looking for a truthful answer, I would like to be as educated as all of you.
September 21, 2021 at 12:49 pm #7517No, you will not perish if you take oxycodone for the rest of your life. But it seems you only plan to take it because you like the way you feel on them. After a short while, maybe three or four weeks into taking them you will not be getting that Buzz. So take a break from time to time. Same principle as do not overtrain – Sorry if that is not what you want to hear but this is how it will be. Here is where it gets interesting. You are going to need more pills and cash. If you don’t have an issue with getting large amounts of money to keep your dream alive you will suffer from a very bad ending. Look. Even the people who really need medication for pain and have been taking drugs for years, I have been a lifer on and off, and its all about controlling your doses. I have to battle going on in my head daily. Good luck my friend and I hope you can take a little about what I wrote and use it correctly.
September 27, 2021 at 7:43 am #7519Well said, my friend
December 14, 2021 at 6:59 am #7552I used to like taking hydromorphone and Morphine for a buzz every once in a while. Then when I seriously got hurt and had to take them each and every day I became frustrated about it. There is no buzz unless I take a ridiculously large dose. And if I don’t take enough I get unwell and frustrated. They don’t help with the pain that much nowadays and I don’t even really take them for pain. That’s part of addiction. And that’s what will happen if you take them each and every day. So no, nothing “bad” HEALTHWISE will happen if you take them each and every day. Unless you consider “bad” being frustrated, unwell, wasting money you don’t have on extras for when you run out early, ordering buprenorphine off the internet for withdrawals, counting your drugs every day, counting the days until you can get your next refill, not sleeping at all because you didn’t take enough today, being constipated, having loose stools, having increased pain levels because your brain is telling you it hurts more when you don’t take enough drugs, trusting/paying doctors to put you on taper plans that they think will work even though they really have no way of knowing how you feel, whining about it on ODB each and day after day. I think that about sums things up.
March 15, 2022 at 2:53 pm #7570Seeing my doctor tomorrow and am NOT going to ask for an increase in meds. The last time I did that I has some new horrible shooting pain in my head, he told me to take 3 Vicodin at a time and wrote me scripts for a zillion 5/500s. Fortunately, acupuncture took that pain away after 6 weeks or so. I don’t want to go to pain mgt. I am not bad enough pain-wise, I think, to justify that. Besides I am TERRIFIED of shots into my neck. It’s the damn pills but the positives still outweighs the side effects for me. They do draw you in though. It reminds me every day that opiates are nothing with which to play with
June 23, 2022 at 6:44 pm #7656I once had somatic disorder that felt very PHYSICAL but was fixed with antidepressants and therapy, but I was also much more open to not wanting to join the cult-like online groups and treatment as I received help in an inpatient psychiatric setting. I surely know the pain and its overall result!
May 30, 2023 at 3:40 pm #7819Are you really seeking advice on how to be a happy addict and seeking a way to be in a permanent state of drug induced euphoria? It is just not going to happen, it is not out there, it has not been invented yet, and what is available out there should be taken in controlled doses. no matter how rich you are… think about the crazy things you are asking…
